Greece, August 2013
We went on a family holiday to Crete in August 2013 and I took my bike. We stayed in Plaka on the North Coast. It was brilliant for cycling – some nice climbs right close to the coast and pretty decent roads which were absolutely traffic free. I didn’t do any serious distances because I’d just started cycling – just an hour or two here and there – but I would definitely go back (in Spring or Autumn) and look around the island.
Crete itself is beautiful – great food and lovely people. When I got up in the hills it felt miles from any tourist stuff, very quiet and the real deal.
