Mallorca

Mallorca – Aug ’15, Oct ’15, May ’16, Oct ’16

We’ve been to Mallorca four times. The first time we went was on a family holiday for a fortnight and we took along our bikes. We’ve since been back three times specifically for cycling holidays, each time for a week.

It’s brilliant, end of story. There’s a fab web site which gives you all the info you need here.

We’ve stayed in Soller once and the other three times we’ve been over the other side of the main mountain range near Pollenca. Both places are great and offer loads of great cycling plus great beaches, restaurants and places to stay. There are tons of great bike shops and hire shops if you don’t want to take your own bike. It’s Disneyland for cyclists.

We’ve done all the main climbs here – none of them feature really steep gradients, it tends to be a fairly constant 6-7% and the roads are mostly smooth.

To be honest, it was too hot for cycling in the summer – don’t go on a cycling holiday in the peak months – it’s just too hot other than at the crack of dawn. We’ve been twice in the last week of October and both times it has been beautiful – generally about 20 degrees, dry and sunny. We went in May and it was beautiful too – starting to get a little hotter but still great conditions for cycling.

I’d recommend Mallorca to anyone for cycling – particularly if you have people in your group who don’t want to cycle and/or you have small kids, there’s loads of other things to do.
