Montecorto, Andalucia – Feb 2017
We booked a cycling holiday with a firm called The Andalucian Cycling Experience.
We decided to do this for some local knowledge to show us the best routes and also to have mechanical support on hand – I was unsure of what the set up with regard to bike shops etc is like in this part of the world.
Good decision – it’s an excellent business and I would highly recommend them. The English couple who run the business are keen cyclists and very hands on – knowledgeable, very organized, friendly and they have built an amazing business. They live out there – they’ve settled with their family and decided to start a cycling business, and very impressive it is too.
The web site gives you loads of information which I won’t repeat here, but a brief summary would be that the local terrain is fabulous – they have everything from rolling roads to 10/15k climbs at 7-8%, steeper in places. The climbs are steeper than Mallorca and there is more variety, the only thing Mallorca has which this place doesn’t is the sea (although you can ride to the seaside from Montecorto).

We found Montecorto wonderful – it’s a really quiet little village on the side of a mountain with a fresh water stream running through the middle, we had a lovely town house with a pool and would certainly stay there again.
We went in February and the weather was generally great – we had a couple of rainy days but it’s still possible to cycle. On the other days the sun shone and we were in shorts and short sleeve tops (with arm warmers and gilets packed for the descents).
If you think Mallorca is the only place to go, then think again – this place is just as good, if not better. The roads themselves are similar to Mallorca – very quiet traffic wise and smooth surface.
